Queensland Urban Utilities has begun work on a $3.1 million project to install a new 4.8km sewer pipeline in Gatton.
The new pipe is being installed to ensure the sewerage network has the capacity to cater for future development in the area.
Major Projects and Commercial Services General Manager, Mike Griffiths, said Queensland Urban Utilities was committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the region’s sewerage infrastructure.
“It’s important we extend the sewerage system’s operational life and improve the reliability of the local network,” he said.
The $3.1 million project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2014, weather permitting.
“The 250mm diameter pipes will be installed using a combination of open trenching and micro-tunnelling technology,” Mr Griffiths said.
“The first stage of construction is underway in Treatment Plant Road, Gatton. Work will then continue in stages to minimise the impact to the local community.”
The new pipe will be laid along Raymont and Smithfield Roads then continue along East, Cochrane, Whittle and Cleary Streets and Western Drive, Gatton.
“We take our responsibility to the Gatton community very seriously and are proud to invest in a better sewerage service for our customers,” Mr Griffiths said.
The $3.1 million investment is part of Queensland Urban Utilities’ $3.2 billion 10-year capital works investment in south east Queensland.
