Urban Utilities has begun its $32 million upgrade plans for the Lockyer Valley, including a new wastewater pump station for Plainland, and an 8km pipe to connect Plainland to Waidley Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Urban Utilities spokesperson, Anna Hartley, said the project would cater for projected growth in the area through to 2040.
“The Lockyer Valley region is growing and we’re delivering projects to cater for that growth,” Ms Hartley said.
“It’s important we upgrade our existing network and build new infrastructure for the future so we can continue to provide safe and reliable water and wastewater services to our customers.
“The new pump station will replace Urban Utilities’ existing tankering facility on Gehrke Road.”
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Tanya Milligan, welcomed the start of the project and Urban Utilities’ investment in the region.
“We know more and more people are choosing to live in this beautiful part of the world,” Ms Milligan said.
“This important project will help ensure our residents’ needs are met now and well into the future.”
Ms Hartley said Urban Utilities and their delivery partner, John Holland, would work to minimise any potential customer impacts as much as possible during the upgrade.
“We’ll be using trenchless technology to install around 2km of the new pipeline to minimise disruption to residents and the environment,” Ms Hartley said.
“We urge everyone to be aware there will be some changed traffic conditions during the project and we thank residents and travellers in the region for their ongoing patience while we complete these essential works for the Plainland community.”
The project is expected to be completed by late 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.
