As Australia’s data centre sector continues to expand, ensuring reliable power infrastructure is becoming increasingly important for operators seeking to minimise downtime and maintain continuous service.
3M has highlighted a range of electrical products and solutions designed to support power reliability, cable protection and asset maintenance across data centre environments. The solutions are aimed at helping operators manage electrical infrastructure from incoming power supplies through to server connections and critical equipment.
According to 3M, maintaining electrical reliability requires a combination of effective cable management, robust insulation systems, secure connections and fire protection measures.
The company’s electrical product portfolio includes solutions for insulating and sealing wires and cables, connecting low-voltage conductors, splicing underground and submerged cables, and helping protect medium-voltage assets from moisture, abrasion and environmental exposure.
Fire protection is also a key consideration for data centre operators, with products available for sealing cable penetrations and protecting critical infrastructure through the use of fire barriers, sealants, foams and protective wraps.
In addition to power distribution infrastructure, these solutions may support maintenance activities such as cable identification, asset marking, corrosion protection and motor lead repairs. The company said these applications can assist operators in maintaining efficient and reliable facility performance.
A data centre application guide developed by 3M outlines how electrical products can be used throughout a facility, including at high-voltage power supplies, transformer connections, switchgear, server rooms, power cable routes and fire-rated wall penetrations. The guide identifies applications spanning high-voltage, medium-voltage and low-voltage environments.
The company said its electrical solutions are designed to address common operational challenges, including exposure to moisture and humidity, chemical corrosion, ultraviolet radiation, temperature extremes and confined installation environments. Products are also available for applications where cable ends are inaccessible or where additional mechanical protection is required.
3M’s portfolio is designed to help reduce maintenance challenges and support long-term network performance across a range of electrical applications.
