The Victorian Minister for Water Peter Walsh announced on Wednesday the appointment of 79 directors to Victoria’s 19 water corporation boards, including 12 chairs.

This year, the Department for Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) received more than 420 expressions of interest.

An independent selection panel representing stakeholder, local government and rural interests shortlisted, interviewed and recommended candidates for consideration for appointment.

Appointees were selected for their relevant skills, experience and demonstrated commitment to integrated water resource management.

There is a strong regional representation and 35 per cent of appointees are female.

Across the 19 water corporations, 57 directors have been reappointed and there are 22 new appointments this year.

The new appointments commence on 1 October 2013 and are for up to four years.

The appointment process is part of the programmed cycle of board renewal.
