Australia’s essential service providers are entering a period of unprecedented change – and as the industry grows Utility needs to evolve alongside it.

Technology is advancing faster than we could have ever imagined, and amidst this race to digitisation, utilities are navigating a changing climate, booming populations as well as evolving customer expectations.

There’s no doubt that the industry is rising to the challenge, and as the water, energy and telecommunications sectors adapt to this modern landscape, they need an industry publication that reflects their incredible uplift and ongoing commitment to innovation and improvement.

With this in mind, we’re beyond excited to unveil a brand-new logo, and announce some key changes for Utility.

Growing with the industry

The first issue of Utility, released in February 2014.

The Utility masthead has remained relatively unchanged since the very first issue – which hit shelves more than a decade ago. We knew it was time for a refresh, but even more importantly we needed to stay true to our core purpose as the voice of Australia’s utilities.

The knowledge and learnings we’ve gained over the past ten years are the foundation of everything we are today – and growth means building on our history, not abandoning it.

Prime Creative Media Art Director, Daz Woolley, explained that his goal in creating the new Utility masthead was to offer a more modern look that reflects the sector’s ongoing focus on innovation, while paying homage to the publication’s roots.

“As fast-moving tech is bringing rapid change, Utility Magazine has been updated to keep pace with the industry,” he said.

With this new masthead also comes a sleek new layout for the publication – which readers can see in our upcoming May 2025 edition.

“The compact new masthead creates a sharp and memorable new brand for Utility, while inside you’ll find new page designs built to allow more easily accessible and in-depth coverage,” Mr Woolley said.

“The clean new Utility Magazine will help you get the industry updates and info you need, in an easy-to-read format.”

Keeping pace

As technology improves, the utility sector is becoming more fast-paced than ever – and it’s important that the content Utility shares is both timely and reflective of the current state of the industry.

To keep up with the needs of the industry as it grows, we will be publishing an additional two issues of Utility per year from 2026.

Each edition will still be the same size and quality you’ve come to expect from Utility, but by shifting from a quarterly to bi-monthly schedule, we hope to give our contributing utilities greater flexibility and the opportunity to share their insights in a more timely manner. This also means we can cover more content and include an even broader range of perspectives and learnings.

We’re kicking things off with an extra 2025 edition and the new publication schedule can be found below:

Utility in 2025:

  • February
  • May
  • July
  • September
  • November

Utility in 2026:

  • January/February
  • March/April
  • May/June
  • July/August
  • September/October
  • November/December

No other industry in Australia could get anywhere without the dedication and hard work that utilities put in to keep the country running; and to be able to share the incredible projects and initiatives that are helping us build a sustainable future is a privilege.

A huge thank you to all our readers, contributors and advertisers for their support over the past ten years, and we can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds.
