Programmed has welcomed the next generation of water professionals to it’s award-winning Sydney Water team, blending enthusiasm with expertise for excellence in water management.

A new group of Programmed apprentices has started at Sydney Water, diving into skills and real-world experience that will shape their careers. These apprentices come from diverse backgrounds, eager to gain practical experience in electrical and mechanical fields. The program aims to develop future leaders with essential sustainability skills.

The apprenticeship combines theory and practice, with apprentices working on real tasks under experienced tradespeople. This hands-on approach helps them tackle challenges like infrastructure maintenance and water quality management. Continuous learning is supported through workshops and courses.

This program also aims to ensures the long-term success of the Programmed contract with Sydney Water by preparing the next generation of tradespeople.

A bright future ahead

As apprentices begin their journey, the potential for growth and innovation is immense. They will lead future challenges and ensure the sustainability of Sydney’s water resources.

Programmed Service Delivery Manager, Mark Dudley, said, “As a father and leader, I am proud to offer these opportunities, providing a stable future for people in Western Sydney.”

Lydia Hale is one of several new apprentices that have shared their experiences and excitement about beginning their journey with Programmed at Sydney Water.

“Very excited to work with Programmed on the Sydney Water contract learning and developing new skills. I am excited to further develop my skills,” Ms Hale said.

Another apprentice, Justin Potts, acknowledged the career opportunities this role unlocked for him.

“Appreciate the development opportunity Programmed has offered me to further my career,” Mr Potts said.

Programmed welcomed its new apprentices to the team, and said that this apprenticeship program at Sydney Water is a launching pad for ambitious individuals ready to make an impact in the industry, promising an enriching experience that opens doors to a world of possibilities.

Sydney Water’s West Region Delivery Team also celebrated excellence with the Best in the West Award, spotlighting individuals and teams who exemplify their core values.

Monthly winners vie for the prestigious Annual Best in the West Award, decided by team votes and presented at the End of Year Event. And in 2024, the winners hailed from the Service Delivery team at Programmed.

This team earned accolades for their seamless execution of a massive data migration project, meticulously deleting and recreating work worth millions to meet client specifications.

Over four months, Alexandra Bickerstaff, Akash Wajpe, Sophie Martin-Duncan, and Mukul Mahajan demonstrated exceptional collaboration and precision, and Programmed said that for those in the know, this is no small feat.

Mr Dudley lauded their meticulous planning and detail-oriented approach.

“The Service Delivery team’s ‘can-do’ spirit is always present, but being recognised for it is truly special,” he said.
