Following the departure of Sarah McNamara in April 2024, the Australian Energy Council (AEC) has appointed Jacana Energy CEO, Louisa Kinnear, as its new Chief Executive.

AEC Chair, Damien Nicks, said the Board was delighted to have someone of Ms Kinnear’s calibre at the helm of the peak body for generators and retailers as it delivers its refreshed strategy and focus on policy reform to support the transition.

“Louisa brings close to 20 years’ experience working within the utility sector, including 12 years in energy. She has a deep understanding of the energy industry, having worked across multiple states and energy systems and leading the Northern Territory’s largest energy retailer,” Mr Nicks said.

“The Board has no doubt that Louisa’s broad experience will benefit our members and will reinforce the AEC’s position as a strong advocate for the energy industry and its customers as the transition continues.

“The Board would also like to thank Ben Barnes for his work as Interim Chief Executive during the recruitment process. His leadership has helped make this a successful transition.”

Ms Kinnear said she is ready to take on the role and looks forward to the important work ahead.

“There is a significant opportunity ahead for the energy industry to successfully navigate the renewable energy transition and the AEC continues to play a critical role in ensuring all customers will benefit,” Ms Kinnear said.

“I am very much looking forward to representing the AEC and its members as we navigate this transition.”

Ms Kinnear leaves her role as CEO of Jacana Energy after four years at the helm. She previously worked for Synergy and Western Power as well as the Water Corporation of Western Australia.

Ms Kinnear will commence her new role 23 September 2024, with Mr Barnes to resume his role as General Manager – Corporate Affairs.
