AGL has created two new leadership positions in its executive team designed to maximise opportunities in specific markets.

AGL Energy Limited (AGL) announced the appointment of Melissa Reynolds to the newly created role of Chief Customer Officer and the promotion of Richard Wrightson to the position of Executive General Manager, Wholesale Markets.

Ms Reynolds and Mr Wrightson will report to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Andy Vesey, as members of AGL’s Executive Team.

The creation of these roles follows the announcement on 10 May 2017 that Stephen Mikkelsen, AGL’s Executive General Manager, Energy Markets, would be leaving the company, which is scheduled to occur in September.

Mr Vesey said, “Our decision to create two new roles with dedicated leadership of our Customer and Wholesale Markets businesses reflects the importance to AGL of maximising the opportunities in each market and the specific skill sets required to do so.

“Melissa was most recently Executive General Manager, Retail Banking, at National Australia Bank. At NAB, she led the transformation of the retail branch experience to centre on the customer and meet the demand for digital interactions. This delivered the highest customer advocacy score for retail branches of all four major banks.

“Richard is currently AGL’s General Manager, Wholesale Markets, and has been with the company for seven years. He has more than 20 years’ experience in wholesale energy markets having previously held roles at Loy Yang Power, the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, the Electricity Trust of South Australia and in the United Kingdom power industry.”

Ms Reynolds joins AGL on 29 May 2017. The changes to AGL’s reporting structure will take place effective 1 July 2017. From the financial year ended 30 June 2018 onwards, AGL’s Energy Markets operating segment will be separated into two operating segments: Customer; and Wholesale Markets.

In addition, AGL is promoting its Chief Information Officer, Simon Moorfield, to the Executive Team, reporting to Mr Vesey. Mr Moorfield currently reports to the Chief Financial Officer, Brett Redman.

Mr Vesey said, “Brett is taking an expanded leadership role driving AGL’s key priority: executing growth at scale as we seek new revenue streams and evolve our business model to prosper in carbon-constrained future. Simon’s addition to the Executive Team reflects the rebuilding and expansion of our IT function under Brett’s leadership and AGL’s significant investment in IT as part of our Customer Experience Transformation program.”
