AGL is set to acquire a provider of biogas plants in an effort to support high-emission businesses to transition to using sustainable energy solutions.
AGL has announced it is set to complete the acquisition of biogas provider, Energy360, subject to customary conditions being met.
Energy360 design, manufacture and operate bioenergy systems that generate energy from organic waste streams providing the gas handling systems, supply and installation of turnkey bioenergy systems which maximise renewable energy.
Energy360 produces biogas through the break-down of residue organic materials in an oxygen-free environment, providing an effective renewable solution for commercial and industrial customers within agricultural, landfill, food processing and waste management industries.
AGL Chief Customer Officer, Christine Corbett, said zero-emissions gases like biomethane have an important role to play in Australia’s decarbonisation, providing a reliable and low-emissions source of energy.
“As Australia’s energy transition continues to move at pace, we want to ensure we are offering our customers the most innovative energy solutions so they can lower costs and achieve their sustainability goals,” Ms Corbett said.
“We know high-emissions businesses with high temperature process requirements are looking for the best solutions that maintain reliability but also allow them to achieve sustainable operations now and into the future.
“AGL is already Australia’s largest provider of commercial solar, and with this acquisition we are expanding the range of sustainable business energy solutions we can offer our commercial customers.”
Ms Corbett said this sustainable energy solution will complement AGL’s existing solar and battery products, helping customers on the path to decarbonisation.
“Bioenergy is a growing industry and one we expect to accelerate over the next decade while also contributing significantly to regional local economies,” Ms Corbett said.
“We welcome the expertise of the Energy360 team as they become a part of AGL, strengthening the products and services we can offer our business customers.“

Energy360 will form part of AGL Australia following AGL Energy’s proposed demerger in 2022.
