Townsville’s irrigation network at Alma Bay on Magnetic Island is set to be upgraded, with work to commence shortly.

The $160,000 upgrade will replace ageing infrastructure and improve the water efficiency of the network into the future.

Divisional councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said only half the site would be closed off at any given time, to ensure island residents and visitors could still make use of the facilities and retain beach access.

“There will be plenty of signage in place to keep everyone up to date, and works will not happen over weekends, to ensure minimal disruption,” Cr Greaney said.

The project is expected to be completed in approximately five weeks.
