APA Group, Australia’s largest natural gas infrastructure business, has signed an arrangement for delivery of natural gas to the Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) meat processing facility currently being developed near Darwin. Delivery will start in mid-2014.
Under the agreement, gas sourced from the Amadeus Basin near Alice Springs will be transported to the AACo facility via APA’s Amadeus Gas Pipeline and a new 2.8 kilometre lateral at Noonamah. The lateral and the necessary gas receiving infrastructure at the facility will be constructed, owned and operated by Northern Australia Beef Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AACo.
The AACo meat processing facility will use gas for cogeneration – an energy efficient means of generating both electricity and thermal heating for meat processing.
Wendy Oldham, APA’s General Manager Northern Territory said that the agreement provides AACo with long term certainty for the facility’s energy needs.
APA has been delivering a reliable gas supply throughout the Northern Territory for almost 30 years. APA is committed to assisting further development in the region through investment in energy infrastructure, and is currently investigating building a pipeline to link the Northern Territory to the south east Australian gas markets.
