The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has welcomed the appointment of a new board member.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, announced the appointment of Marianna O’Gorman to the ARENA Board for a two-year term.
ARENA also welcomed the reappointment of Stephen McIntosh for an additional two-year term.
A non-executive director at Queensland’s Stanwell Corporation, Australia’s second largest electricity generator, Ms O’Gorman brings with her an extensive background in corporate governance.
ARENA’s Board is a skills-based decision-making body, responsible for recommending the Agency’s annual general funding strategy to the Minister, setting investment priorities, overseeing the running of the organisation and approving project funding. The Board has overall responsibility for the operations of the agency.
ARENA Chief Executive Officer, Darren Miller, welcomed Ms O’Gorman to the Board and said that her long track record and energy sector expertise are what ARENA needs to guide the agency as the energy transition gathers pace.
“Ms O’Gorman is someone who knows ARENA well, having advised the Australian Government on our establishment more than ten years ago. She brings with her a wealth of experience in the energy and climate space and I look forward to her joining us in this important work,” Mr Miller said.
“Mr McIntosh has proven to be an invaluable asset to ARENA’s governance, having served two years with us already. His long career driving innovation in the resources sector offers us a wealth of expertise in our increasing work on industrial decarbonisation.”
Mr Miller also thanked outgoing board member Stephanie Unwin, Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Power, who has served on the Board since 2018.
“I would like to thank Ms Unwin for her contribution to ARENA during a period of positive change and growth. Ms Unwin’s considerable experience within the renewable energy space has helped us in funding the right projects to ensure we deliver maximum impact on our path towards net zero,” Mr Miller said.
“I wish Ms Unwin all the best in her future endeavours and look forward to working with her in her capacity as Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Power.”
