Central Highlands Water has marked a key milestone in its Ballarat Sewer Build with the works progressing to the next stage.
Line-marking at the intersection of Humffray Street South and Barkly Street was completed on 18 July 2025, marking the end of that Ballarat Sewer Build work front.
Central Highlands Water Project Manager, Chris Loader, said, “The works, which encountered both extremely hard rock and varying ground conditions, have been challenging, making the full and permanent reopening of this intersection particularly pleasing.”
“Businesses located at the Humffray Street South and Barkly Street intersection, including Interknit, Genesis Gym, Viridi and Windscreen Power, have been exceptionally understanding and supportive throughout the process, which we are really grateful for,” Mr Loader said.
Works at depths lower than 9m allowed the installation of the section of duplicate sewer pipe, and maintenance holes, as part of the $25 million project that will serve the Ballarat community’s wastewater needs for the next 100 years.
Ballarat Sewer Build’s next phase of construction has now moved to the intersection of Hill Street and Humffray Street South, extending to Morton Street. These works include the pit construction, which will provide the access point for the microtunnelling machine to underbore and install the next section of sewer pipe.
This new work front is expected to be closed to traffic until November 2025, with residential and business access maintained. Motorists are asked to use Skipton Street, Grant Street, Barkly Street, and Leith Street.
