Sydney Water has begun testing the recently completed Balmain wastewater pumping station, before it is connected into the wastewater network in mid 2016.

Construction began on the newly upgraded station in Booth Street, Balmain in July 2013.

The previous pumping station located on the corner of Buchanan and Reynolds Streets was built over 100 years ago, was in poor condition and needs to be replaced.

The station was decommissioned in 2015 as the new pump station was completed.

As well as the new pumping station, Sydney Water is also building a gravity pipe to divert wastewater from the existing pumping station to the new site in Booth Street.

A pressure pipe will also be installed from the new pumping station in Booth Street to a maintenance hole located at the intersection of Palmer and Little Stephen Streets.
