In response to a growing need for improved water supply in the City of Wanneroo, Water Corporation has begun work on a 1.33km  water main in Banksia Grove using trenchless technology.

Water Corporation spokesperson, Clare Lugar, said construction began in late April 2017 and would take about four months to complete.

“The new water main will be constructed along Woolly Road, Ghost Gum Boulevard, Parakeelya Road and Celadon Loop in Banksia Grove,” Ms Lugar said.

“We have planned our work to minimise disruption to traffic and the community. Work will be undertaken using both open trench excavation and trenchless technology.

“Trenchless technology will be used to minimise traffic impacts on busy roads, such as the intersection of Joondalup Drive and Parakeelya Road intersection. This technology allows us to tunnel under the intersection, without the need to dig up the road surface.

“There will be traffic management in place while the new main is installed, for the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians.

“We will also carry out less noisy work overnight and on weekends where possible, to expedite the construction of the new water main.”

Water Corporation will ensure areas, such as verges and driveways, disturbed by the construction of the water main will be returned as close to original condition as possible.

“Thank you to the local Banksia Grove community and road users for their patience while we undertake this essential work, which will cater for growth and improve water supplies in the popular, rapidly growing area,” Ms Lugar said.
