Beach Energy has appointed its new Chief Executive Officer who will bring a depth of experience to the role having worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 25 years.

After an extensive search, Matthew Kay was announced as the new CEO of Beach Energy.

Mr Kay will commence in this role from July 2016, after leaving his current position of Executive General Manager, Strategy and Commercial at Oil Search Limited.

Prior to this role, Mr Kay held various senior leadership positions over 12 years at Woodside Petroleum Limited and previously at Santos Limited.

Beach Energy Chairman, Glenn Davis, said the Board was thrilled Beach had attracted a candidate with Mr Kay’s experience.

“Mr Kay has worked in the oil and gas space for more than 25 years and he has a depth of experience that makes him perfectly suited to the role of our Chief Executive Officer,” Mr Davis said.

“He has led and managed a comprehensive range of business functions throughout his career including strategy and planning, upstream commercial, mergers and acquisitions, production planning and business improvement.

“He brings to the role an excellent understanding of the Australian oil and gas industry and basins.”

Mr Davis said Mr Kay has a proven track record, and the determination to succeed, making him well placed to lead Beach and drive the execution of their future strategy.

“I am pleased to make this announcement and the Board looks forward to welcoming Mr Kay to the Company,” Mr Davis said.
