A combination of wipes, rags and stones caused a blockage and subsequent sewer overflow into the ornamental lake at Rotary Gateway Park in Kangaroo Flat in late July 2017.
Overflow from a manhole occurred on a 150 millimetre sewer main to Bendigo Creek, flowing into the ornamental lake at Rotary Gateway Park. The exact overflow volume is unknown but spill was deemed significant.
Approximately 100,000 litres, a combination of the spill and contaminated stormwater, was educted from the site.
The blockage was cleared and clean up on site is continuing. Warning signs are in place around the lake area.
Coliban Water was notified of overflow from manhole in the early morning and had staff on site immediately to locate the manhole and isolate the spill. The blockage was then cleared by midday then eduction (suction) trucks were on site to commence clean up and will continue over coming days subject to monitoring results.
There was no impact on customers’ sewer service as a result of the overflow.
