Gippsland Water will soon commence maintenance works at its Buckley’s Hill Reservoir in Morwell (VIC).
Over coming weeks trucks will be carting rock to the site to ensure ongoing compliance with modern standards for the storage.
“The original storage was built in the early 1960s so it’s all part of our maintenance program to ensure the future integrity of the structure and guarantee continued supply to our Morwell customers,” said Managing Director of Gippsland Water, Mr David Mawer.
“We expect around 150 truck movements into the site over the next four weeks which will have some disruption on local traffic flow however, we don’t expect any other impact on residents,” added Mr Mawer.
The extra material will be added to the northern walls of the clear water storage, an area that has been subject to some minor movements over many years.
“This work has been planned for some time and is part of our ongoing works program. We have written to local residents to inform them of what we’re doing and will concentrate the traffic movements to weekdays to minimise disruption. Similarly we’ve consulted with Latrobe City to ensure they are aware of our work,” concluded Mr Mawer.
Work is scheduled to begin on May 18th and will continue for approximately four weeks.
The Buckley’s Hill Reservoir provides treated water to the Morwell and Churchill community as well as raw water to the local power industry.
