The Clean Energy Council has released a new online resource that provides insight into the professions available in the clean energy industry and the educational pathways required to pursue them.
The Clean Energy Careers Guide is free to use and is Australia’s first dedicated careers resource for the renewable energy industry.
The Clean Energy Careers Guide provides students and employees from other industries with information about pursuing a career in renewable energy.
It aims to be an invaluable resource for students, employees from other industries and anyone who has ever wondered how they can be a part of Australia’s clean energy transition.
The Australian clean energy sector employs about 30,000 people across large-scale renewable energy construction, operation and maintenance, plus small-scale rooftop solar design and installation.
There are shortages across all these areas, but especially when it comes to engineers and electricians.
Clean Energy Council Chief Executive, Kane Thornton, said the Clean Energy Council hopes the new resource will help to fill the shortages in these positions.
“The Clean Energy Council is working on painting a picture of what clean energy jobs exist, as a means of supporting individuals, Australian governments, education and training systems, and clean energy employers to fill the widening skills gaps,” Mr Thornton said.
“The clean energy industry can provide fulfilling career opportunities, and it’s important that young Australians can envisage their futures in the sector, education and training organisations can offer the right pathways, and government support systems can focus their efforts where they are most needed.”
With the Federal Government requiring renewable energy to do the majority of the work to achieve its 2030 emissions reduction target, addressing the clean energy skills gap is crucial to ensuring that the industry’s growth isn’t hindered and that Australia’s clean energy transition continues to accelerate.
The Clean Energy Careers Guide is complemented by existing workforce development tools provided by the Clean Energy Council, including:
- The Clean Energy Careers Hub – a listing of jobs across the renewable energy and energy storage sector
- The Clean Energy at Work report, which highlights the results of the largest study of current and projected employment in the renewable energy industry in Australia
- The Women in Renewables program, which enables and champions women working in the renewable energy industry
The soon-to-be-launched Clean Energy Learning Hub, which will equip the sector with quality, accessible and industry bespoke professional development opportunities
