The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission has announced a 4.6 per cent decrease to the regulated electricity prices from 1 July 2015.
For an average Canberra family that uses 8,000 kWh of electricity per year, this will equate to a saving of $1.53 a week.
This price reduction is a result of a decrease in network charges and lower wholesale energy purchase costs.
General Manager Retail, Ayesha Razzaq said, “While we’re seeing a decrease in electricity prices, we’re still here to assist our customers with further ways to save, particularly coming into the winter months.
“We have a range of energy saving programs and initiatives designed to help customers manage their energy costs, like our free Energy Saving House Calls program and free LED bulb replacement program.
“Making a few small changes around your home can also help reduce your winter energy bill. Like minimising the space you heat, time you heat for and temperature setting on your heater. Every degree you reduce your thermostat setting can lower your heating costs by 10 per cent.
“These are just a few ideas. We have over 76 ways to help you take control of your energy costs listed in the Save Energy section of our website.”
