Demand response

City West Water has chosen to participate in programs that encourage energy users to voluntarily reduce their energy usage during times of extreme demand.

The Australian Energy Market Operator’s Demand Response programs ask energy users to voluntarily reduce their power consumption when demand for electricity surges, for example due to extreme weather.

Upon request, City West Water will temporarily reduce its energy use by switching off equipment at its Altona and Werribee Treatment Plants for up to four hours, with no impact to service reliability.

With summer fast approaching, and demand for electricity expected to increase, City West Water’s participation in the program will benefit the local community as it will make more energy available for our customers during periods of high demand and reduce the risk of power supply interruptions.
