The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has launched a new Markets portal, which is the latest improvement under a program to transform its digital systems and services.
The program involves investments in upgrades across the board to provide more reliable and transparent data, improve system reliability and forecasting, and lower costs to users.
AEMO said its stakeholders are benefiting from better accessibility and improved functionality of key platforms, including the AEMO website, data dashboards and digital portals.
AEMO Chief Digital and Business Transformation Officer, Joe Locandro, said, “We are seeing a growing volume of users accessing our digital services, with more participants in the NEM than ever before.
“This uplift aims to meet changing stakeholder expectations in the dynamic, data-driven, technology-enabled energy sector.
“As an organisation that plays an essential role collecting and providing access to critical data and market information, AEMO recognised that many of our legacy systems couldn’t efficiently meet emerging expectations and changing needs.
“With that, we’ve got a portal refresh project underway to make sure it is easy for stakeholders to engage, connect and interact with us, at the same time as improving functionality, flexibility and service delivery.”
Approximately 25 per cent of users go directly to one of AEMO’s data dashboards, with portals such as Supply Forecasting, Gas Supply Hub and the Gas Bulletin Board facilitating the efficient operation of Australia’s energy markets.
“Whether it is an IT developer connecting to our systems, a participant bidding in the market, or an analyst from a government agency seeking reliable statistics – we want to provide a simple, efficient and logical way for them to find the information they need,” Mr Locandro said.
Several portals have now been successfully refreshed. The AEMO IT Developer Portal was launched in July 2020 and provides a central location embedded in AEMO.com.au for users to view rich application programming interface (API) documentation and to connect to AEMO’s APIs.
The updated NEMWeb Portal and WA Market Portal were successfully launched in September 2020.
“The refreshed Markets Portal means participants will benefit from easier and simpler navigation via a new landing page, and new functionality such as being able to tag common-use apps into a simple favourites menu,” Mr Locandro said.
“Our new notifications function is proving popular as a useful tool to ensure that participants are always kept informed, whether it is a high-priority outage or a more generic update.
“Other benefits include a consolidated entry point into applications and information services via the AEMO website, and improved functionality including help and support.”
