The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has given permission for Victorian electricity and gas retailer, Sumo Gas, to retail gas in New South Wales to residents and small businesses.

Sumo Gas, who first commenced operations in early 2015, currently retails electricity to 40,000 Victorian customers and gas to 20,000 residential gas consumers.

After Sumo Gas applied for its licence to retail gas in NSW, the AER received no submissions objecting to the proposal.

In addition, the AER also received an application from Humenergy Group for gas retailer authorisation.

Humenergy Group is intending on retailing gas in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, with a primary focus on selling to residential consumers.

The industry is invited to submit submission on the proposal until May 23. These submissions should be submitted to Angela Bourke, General Manager, with the following title in the email: Humenergy – application for a gas retailer authorisation.
