The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has awarded Endeavour Energy’s Parramatta office a prestigious 6–Green Star Interiors Sustainability rating.
According to the GBCA this rating represents world leadership in sustainable design and construction, placing Endeavour Energy among an elite group, with only 37 per cent of certified GBCA interiors having achieved this coveted 6-Star rating.
Endeavour Energy Chief Data, People & Sustainability Officer, Melissa Irwin, said this achievement reflects the utility’s deep commitment to embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations.
“The GBCA certification process has guided the transformation of workspaces across Endeavour Energy into high-performing, environmentally conscious environments,” she said.
“It’s empowered our people to embrace new ways of working, while positioning Endeavour Energy as a forward-thinking energy services provider focused on long-term sustainability and delivering outstanding value to our customers.”
GBCA CEO, Davina Rooney, said Endeavour Energy’s office at 8 Parramatta Square is an innovative fit-out that has gone above and beyond to prioritise circularity, energy efficiency and cultural connection through design.
“This project team’s commitment to work closely with Indigenous design consultants has fostered a workplace with a genuine sense of belonging, respect for Parramatta’s history, and community wellbeing. GBCA congratulates all involved in this standout project,” he said.
The 6-Star Green Star rating encompasses a range of initiatives that reflect Endeavour Energy’s commitment to environmental responsibility, cultural inclusion and employee wellbeing:
Prioritising sustainability
Sustainability was embedded in every phase of the fit-out, which is housed in a Gold core WELL-certified and 6-Star Green Star building. The office features low volatile organic compounds (VOC) and PVC-free materials, as well as diverse workstations designed with various layouts, lighting and acoustics to support the needs of all employees.
Integrating indigenous design
In collaboration with Indigenous design firm Balarinji and artist Jamie Eastwood, the office incorporates culturally significant motifs and symbols that honour the local Dharug area and the communities Endeavour Energy serves. Key features include a painted mural, an eel bench and embedded symbols that establish a unique and meaningful connection to Country.
Celebrating heritage
The design pays tribute to Endeavour Energy’s 120-year legacy, using copper tones to represent transmission cables and a vibrant colour palette inspired by the natural environments in which the company operates. A grid motif woven throughout the space symbolises the electricity grid, reinforcing the company’s core purpose.
WMK Architecture Managing Director, Greg Barnett, said the company was proud to have created a workplace that reflects Endeavour Energy’s commitment to sustainability, their values and vision for the future.
“We believe sustainability should be at the core of all design encompassing not just environmental responsibility but also social and economic impact,” Mr Barnett said.
“Our collaboration with Endeavour Energy provided an opportunity to push the boundaries of innovative workplace design, integrating cultural heritage and creating a human-centred experience.”
Built Head of Sustainability and Social Impact, Joe Karten, echoed this sentoment.

“It’s a recognition of the project team’s care in integrating public art and thoughtful design features that celebrate the history of the company, Indigenous culture and the surrounding Parramatta community, showcasing how to create community connections through a high performance, low-environmental impact space.
“Securing renewable electricity was essential in reducing one of the major environmental impacts – Scope 2 emissions – and instrumental in achieving this Green Star certification, reinforcing Endeavour’s commitment to sustainable leadership.”
