The first stage of a $9.6 million Western Australia State Government major water mains replacement project has been completed on the South Western Highway at Bunbury.
Aqwest, Bunbury’s water supplier, completed the $800,000 water network upgrade project, replacing 2km of mains from Halifax Drive to Centenary Road.
It’s the first part of the project, which will run over ten years, to improve water supply reliability in the Bunbury region.
The existing 100mm pipes were replaced with 200mm pipes and capacity was improved, which will increase water supply and pressure to the Bunbury Airport to boost the firefighting capacity, Bunbury Regional Prison and meet future development needs.
Local workers were used to complete the project and undertake traffic management, supporting local jobs.
The works, taking place from 2022–2032, will ease pressure on existing water infrastructure, reduce potential leakage and conserve water resources.
