South East Water is boosting water quality with a new upgraded floating cover at its major Frankston South water storage.
The project at the Rosedale Grove basin in Frankston South installed a new floating cover and dewatering system to improve site safety, water quality and reliability. Water storage covers reduce sunlight exposure, prevent algal growth and limit evaporation.
“We know getting the basics right is important to our customers. Maintaining critical storage infrastructure is essential, and these upgrades help us keep delivering safe, high-quality drinking water every day,” South East Water Managing Director Carla Purcell said.
Delivered with industry partner Abergeldie, BMD and KBR Joint Venture, South East Water completed the Rosedale Grove works with minimal disruption to nearby residents and water services.
South East Water is also upgrading the floating cover at its Eliza Drive basin in Mount Eliza. This project will further protect water quality across the local network.
“Supporting our growing local community with investment that matches its size is crucial to ensuring a safe and reliable water supply,” State Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP said.
In 2024–25, South East Water supplied 146 billion litres of drinking water through 14,639km of water mains and took more than 13,500 samples to make sure it met strict safety and quality standards.
South East Water has also finalised planning to replace the existing Lang Lang storage basin with a new tank. Delivery is scheduled to start in the 2026–27 year.
