The Queensland Government has confirmed funding of a 26km gas pipeline from west Bundaberg to the Port of Bundaberg.
Mayor Forman said the Bundaberg Regional Council had been working in partnership with the new State Government to ensure its construction.
“Our Council has been working hard behind the scenes for many months to successfully negotiate the development of the gas pipeline and I applaud the Member for Bundaberg, Leanne Donaldson, and her state government colleagues for recognising the importance of this infrastructure to the Bundaberg region,” Mayor Forman said.
“Today’s announcement provides certainty to our region. A gas pipeline is critical in enabling economic infrastructure, growth and employment opportunities. It will act as a catalyst for commercial development and secure the establishment of a $70 million Knauf plasterboard factory, which was contingent on the ability to access natural gas.
“The economic benefits that will flow into the region as a result of pipeline and the Knauf project will be enormous and felt throughout central Queensland.
