Yarra Valley Water has been listed as a top-performing company in the prestigious Financial Times Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders list for the third consecutive year.
Positioned alongside other major brands such as LG Electronics, Nissan Motor and Telstra, Yarra Valley Water has emerged as the highest ranked water corporation and leading Australian utility company on the Climate Leaders list.
Yarra Valley Water Managing Director, Pat McCafferty, said the recognition reflects an unwavering commitment to meaningful climate action.
“Being included on the Climate Leaders list highlights the dedication of our employees who are driving real change through innovative and impactful environmental initiatives,” he said.
“At Yarra Valley Water, environmental sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s ingrained in our approach to delivering essential services. Our customers expect us to take action and we’re determined to keep pushing boundaries to create cleaner, greener and healthier communities.”
Yarra Valley Water has implemented industry-leading initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. These include constructing a solar car park that provides 30 per cent of the power needed for its head office and operating a food waste-to-energy facility that generates renewable electricity.
Mr McCafferty said leading for the environment is embedded in the water corporation’s long-term strategy, influencing decisions at every level.
“I’m proud of how a sustainable mindset permeates right through our organisation. Our team consistently looks for sustainable solutions, from recycling uniforms to refurbishing office furniture and even using recycled barricade tape on work sites,” he said.
“Every action, big or small, contributes to making Yarra Valley Water a leader in climate action.”
The Financial Times Climate Leaders list recognises companies that achieved the greatest reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions intensity over a five-year period.
Scope 1 emissions come from a company’s own operations, Scope 2 measures the energy a company uses, and Scope 3 includes emissions across the entire value chain.
Yarra Valley Water’s actions mean it is on target to report net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the 2025–26 financial year.
The Yarra Valley Water Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders List ranking follows a Distinction Award for the Public Water Agency of the Year category at the Global Water Awards in May 2025.
