Goulburn-Murray Water has announced the appointment of Steve Capewell as its next Managing Director.
Dr Capewell will commence with the utility on July 6. According to Goulburn-Murray Water, he brings extensive executive leadership experience across the water sector and a strong focus on delivering sustainable outcomes in partnership with customers, communities and stakeholders.
“Following a rigorous search process, the Board is confident that Steve is exceptionally well placed to lead Goulburn-Murray Water into its next chapter,” said Goulburn-Murray Water Chair Justin Hanney.
“Steve brings a strong understanding of the complexities of the water sector, a clear focus on outcomes, and a genuine appreciation of the vital role our people play in delivering services that support regional communities, agriculture and the environment.”
Dr Capewell, who has served as Managing Director of Goulburn Valley Water for the past five and a half years, said he was pleased to be remaining in the region as he takes on the new role.
“It’s an exciting time to lead Goulburn-Murray Water amid the challenges and opportunities facing the water sector. The organisation plays a vital role in supporting regional communities, and I look forward to working with the Board, staff, customers and stakeholders to build on its strong foundations,” Dr Capewell said.
His start in early July will enable a seamless transition ahead of the departure of current Managing Director Charmaine Quick at the end of July, ensuring continuity and a thorough handover process.
Hanney acknowledged Quick’s contribution to the organisation throughout her seven-year tenure.

“During her tenure, Charmaine has provided steady and principled leadership for Goulburn-Murray Water, guiding the organisation through a period of transition while maintaining a strong focus on service delivery, organisational stability and support for staff.
“Goulburn-Murray Water looks forward to welcoming Steve and introducing him to staff, customers and stakeholders over the coming months.”
