Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) has appointed three new members to its Board of Directors, including a new Chair.

Mark Stone AM will be the utility’s new Chair, while Tammy Atkins and Denis Flett have been appointed as Directors.

Mr Stone, Ms Atkins and Mr Flett joined their first meeting in early April 2020.

The appointments are aimed at adding diverse experience and building on the board’s existing strength to address future challenges.

A previous CEO of Parks Victoria, and CEO of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Stone now runs a business advisory company and has an extensive understanding of regional issues having lived and worked in many parts of Victoria, including the Goulburn Valley region.

His other roles have included the Premier’s Jobs and Investment Panel, Co-Chair of the Victorian Aboriginal Economic Board, board member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CEO of Tourism Victoria and board member of Tourism Australia.

Mr Stone was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2016 and is currently a member of the Premier’s Special Advisory Council for Bushfire Recovery Victoria.

Tammy Atkins is a business consultant with a career interest in regional policy and economic development. Ms Atkins has experience working with all three tiers of government and is involved in a diverse range of community organisations.

Ms Atkins is a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership Program, the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and Curtin University. She is a Director of Wodonga TAFE, has previously served on the North East CMA Board of Directors, the Winton Wetlands Committee of Management and is a former elected Councillor for the Rural City of Wangaratta.

Denis Flett has 45 years’ experience in the water sector, spanning engineering, management, leadership, governance and environmental stewardship.

Mr Flett was the foundation CEO of Goulburn-Murray Water, a Victorian Commissioner on the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, Deputy Chair of North East Water, a consultant with Sinclair Knight Merz, a principal of DG Consulting and the foundation Chairperson of the Victorian Environmental Water Holder. Denis is a Fellow of the AICD.

GVW Managing Director, Peter Quinn, said the appointments would complement the current board’s expertise.

“We warmly welcome Mark, Tammy and Denis to Goulburn Valley Water, as our board continues to guide the business to contribute to healthy and prosperous regional communities,” Mr Quinn said.
