The 2019 AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies list, published by The Australian Financial Review and Boss Magazine, has released its list of the most innovative companies in Australia.
The highly competitive ranking is based on a rigorous assessment process managed by Australia’s leading innovation consultancy, Inventium, and a panel of industry expert judges.
More than 800 organisations were nominated across Australia and New Zealand, with Melbourne Water being acknowledged in the influential list.
The list was split into ten industry-specific categories and Melbourne Water ranked third in the Government, Education and NFP category for its Virtual Reality Multi-User Training Platform.
Melbourne Water’s Managing Director, Michael Wandmaker, said the Organisation was recognised for its world leading approach to using virtual reality technology to improve building designs, increase engagement and deliver immersive training.
“Innovation is happening in all parts of Melbourne Water and this award recognises the collaboration between our Safety Team, IT and Asset Management with support from our Research Partners within Deakin University’s Virtual Reality Lab in Geelong.
“We are proud of the work we do at Melbourne Water in this area and being a part of this list is a validation of the high standard of our innovation initiatives,” Mr Wandmaker said.
Assessment measures a top innovation implemented in the past twelve months.
Specifically, the judges look at how valuable the problem is that the innovation is solving; the quality and uniqueness of the solution; the level of impact that the innovation has had; and how customer centric it is.
The AFR BOSS Most Innovative Companies list is now in its eighth year. The list ranks the most innovative organisations in Australia and New Zealand, and is the only national list of its kind.
This year was the first time the list was broken down into ten industry categories, effectively ranking organisations against their peers.
