Jemena recently completed its largest solar project to date as it connected solar power to Melbourne’s Roxburgh Village and Broadmeadows shopping centres.

The project saw teams from both Jemena and Vicinity Centres come together to evaluate, plan and execute Vicinity Centres’ ambitions for its solar installation.

With the significant number of solar panels being installed, Jemena worked closely with Vicinity Centres to ensure the specific energy needs were met for its industry-leading rollout.

Vicinity Centres installed nearly 10,000 solar panels at the two centres providing a total of 3.5MW of clean, renewable energy to help power the centres and make a positive environmental impact for their local communities.

Jemena Account Manager, Philip Chalko, said a collaborative approach was used throughout the project.

“We knew this connection would be a challenge based on the technicality and mere size of it, but saw the opportunity and potential for a significant step forward in helping our commercial customers bring their renewable energy aspirations to life.”

These major connections are part of the rollout of Vicinity Centres’ retail solar program, which is currently in the process of implementing Australia’s largest retail solar and storage program installing 31MW of solar capacity across 22 centres.

Vicinity Centres’ Head of Integrated Energy, Renae Sambrooks, explained the importance of solar energy use within the company’s retail properties.

“At Vicinity, we know we have a considerable footprint in urban environments, so our program delivers more sustainable and energy resilient centres as we strive to put renewable energy at the very heart of our communities.”
