Part Two of Brisbane City council’s landfill remediation works in Purtell Park (QLD) are currently underway.
The remediation works involve constructing a new sewer network connection on the creek bank for the future management of the landfill.
The connection will collect the low-flow leachate discharging from the landfill site and transfer it into the local sewer network.
The Purtell Park landfill remediation works will include:
- vegetation removal along the creek bank
- constructing a rock wall, pump station (including fencing and access steps) and manholes
- laying new sewer pipes and electrical services
- rehabilitation of the area after the works are complete.
There will be significant earthworks occurring inside the park along the creek bank to construct a temporary access point and the permanent rock wall and pump station.
The aim of the program of the remediation works within the park is to improve the condition of Ithaca Creek by minimising the amount of leachate being discharged into Ithaca Creek.
The project area will be fenced off and closed to the public for the duration of the works.
