Ergon Energy urges operators of heavy machinery urged to Look Up and Live after an excavator contacted power lines and disrupted power to 1,858 customers in Andergrove.
Ergon Energy Acting Area Operations Manager Dale Schultz said power lines were brought down behind the Andergrove Caravan Park during the incident which occurred at 4.25 pm.
Ergon crews responded quickly and got the majority of customers back on line by 8.41 pm after isolating the fault area and making safe.
All remaining customers were reinstated by 10.30 pm however Ergon crews worked through to 11.20 pm to complete final repairs.
Mr Schultz stressed the need for operators of heavy machinery to keep a safe distance from any nearby electricity infrastructure and always remain vigilant.
“The reality is that we had a potentially dangerous situation that not only compromised the safety of the machine operator but also that of the general public with power lines brought to the ground not to mention the inconvenience suffered by over 1,800 customers through an unnecessary power interruption.”
“These types of incidents can and do have serious and sometimes fatal consequences” he said.
