Atmos Renewables has awarded Genus Plus Group a $65 million contract to design and construct the Merredin Battery Energy Storage System and substation works in Western Australia.
Located in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt, the 100MW, four-hour BESS will enhance grid reliability and support the Western Australian electricity market as renewable generation increases. Adjacent to the Merredin Solar Farm, the project will be delivered over an 18-month period commencing once Genus receives a notice to proceed, with completion expected in early 2027.
Genus will oversee the design, procurement, installation and civil works, engaging more than 70 personnel and drawing on significant local content from Western Australia.
Genus said that this major win reinforces its position as a Tier 1 contractor of choice in Australia’s renewable energy transition.
The company said that this contract builds on Genus’ growing momentum in the renewable energy transition space, further expanding its capability and presence in the battery energy storage market. The Merredin BESS adds to Genus’ strong track record in delivering complex, large-scale energy infrastructure that underpins Australia’s clean energy future.

Genus Managing Director, David Riches, said, “We’re proud to be delivering this flagship project with Atmos Renewables.
“It’s a testament to our delivery capability and the trust our partners place in us as we continue to grow as a genuine force in the renewables sector.”
