The New South Wales Government is investing a record $2.2 billion through Sydney Water to upgrade water infrastructure including wastewater treatment plants, filtration plants, pumps and water supply pipes.
The upgrades will occur between 2016 and 2020.
New South Wales Minister for Water, Niall Blair, said the State Government has helped Sydney Water deliver cuts of $100 to water bills in 2016 and will now investment a record amount into critical infrastructure.
“This infrastructure investment will see new filtration plants, pumps and water supply pipes built, and upgrades to wastewater networks and treatment plants – all of which will ensure world-class supply of water to people’s homes continues,” Mr Blair said.
One of the projects involves the construction of a $27 million wastewater pumping station at Oran Park, which will allow for 7000 new homes to be built in Sydney’s South West.
Member for Camden, Chris Patterson, said the Oran Park wastewater pumping station will see around eight kilometres of wastewater pipelines installed.
“This is in addition to the Sydney Water wastewater projects just completed in Leppington and Austral, allowing a further 12,000 new dwellings in the area to be constructed,” Mr Patterson said.
“The project at Austral involved the construction of a new wastewater pumping station and 4.2km pipelines at a cost of $19 million. Two wastewater pumping stations and 12km of pipeline were constructed at Leppington at a cost of $45 million.”
