The Queensland Government has invested over $2.4 million for vital infrastructure upgrades in the Roma sewerage network.
Minister for State Development and Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dr Anthony Lynham, said the new Roma sewage treatment plant will better service the growing Roma region.
“The Queensland Government has invested more than $2.4 million to upgrade the Roma sewerage network including new sludge drying beds that will increase the overall efficiency of the operation,” Dr Lynham said.
“An upgrade to the region’s essential infrastructure was needed due to population growth after the previous sewerage system struggled to meet demands.
“The upgraded facility and sewerage network has the capacity to service Roma’s current needs and has been purpose-built to service the region’s future population.”
Maranoa Mayor, Robert Loughnan, said the delivery of essential infrastructure and services was identified as a priority for Council and that the upgrade of Roma’s sewerage assets was an important project.
“This infrastructure is critical to the ongoing development of our region,” Dr Loughnan said.
“It is fantastic that Council is able to partner with the State Government and industry to see these sewerage infrastructure advancements come to fruition.
“The Roma sewerage upgrades are expected to have a 100 year life span and with only minimal maintenance to be needed in the future, there will be long-term benefits for our community.”
Dr Lynham said the opening of these important pieces of infrastructure highlighted the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to growing and investing in regional areas.
“Our $200 million Building our Regions program will fund critical infrastructure in regional areas of Queensland,” he said.
“Successful projects under the Building our Regions program will be announced later this year.”
