Works to upgrade GWMWater’s Donald Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) are well underway, with the project aiming to support Donald’s growing industrial district and enhance water security once completed.

GWMWater said that work began earlier in 2024 to modify the treatment lagoons and storages. Together with the construction of a new mechanical plant, these lagoons will provide additional wastewater treatment and storage capacity.

The new mechanical plant will provide an enhanced treatment process. It is low-maintenance and energy efficient, resulting in better outcomes for customers while maintaining water and service costs.

The work is scheduled for completion in summer 2024–25.

GWMWater Managing Director, Mark Williams, said the project was part of the organisation’s annual capital program.

“This project signifies a substantial investment in the region,” Mr Williams said.

“The enhanced treatment process and use of the technology marks a first for GWMWater, and we envision the Donald WWTP will be the blueprint for future wastewater treatment plants in our service region.”

The upgraded Donald WWTP will produce a higher quality recycled water that will be suitable for irrigating turf, flower and tree lots, golf courses, sporting fields and community areas. This will provide a valuable water source to reduce pressure on drinking water supplies, enhance water security, keep open spaces green year-round and support the local economy.
