The Northwest Treatment Hub Program is powering ahead, with Sydney Water and its delivery partner, Fulton Hogan, kicking construction goals.
Key infrastructure is now in place for the new odour control unit being installed at the Rouse Hill Water Resource Recovery Facility.
Sydney Water said that once completed, the new odour control unit will be ten times more effective than what is currently in place. It works by removing odorous gases from the wastewater by neutralising hydrogen sulphide that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere.
This project is part of the larger Northwest Treatment Hub Program, which will see upgrades to all three treatment plants that service Sydney’s north-west – Rouse Hill, Castle Hill and Riverstone – to improve water quality, reduce odour and ensure compliance with New South Wales Environment Protection Authority requirements.
Fulton Hogan said that the large vent shaft and odour control tanks have been delivered and installed, and the next steps are to establish the connection and complete testing. Work is expected to be completed in early 2026.
