The Western Australian Government has welcomed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Woodside and Perdaman that will pave the way for more gas processing in the Pilbara.

The MoU is a major step towards a new urea plant in the Pilbara, which will help to create new job opportunities for Karratha and the region.

Minister for Regional Development, Alannah MacTiernan, said, “This marks the first major step towards a new gas processing facility on the Burrup in more than a decade.

“Our government sees great potential for gas processing in the Pilbara, which is why we have worked to support this job-creating project. Congratulations to both Perdaman and Woodside on taking this step.”

The State Government has worked with both parties to help support the MoU to achieve this outcome.

Perdaman has estimated the new plant will create up to 2000 jobs during construction and 200 ongoing jobs.

The State Government is committed to finding the balance between the environment and economic development, including appropriate management of the industrial development on existing zoned industrial land.
