Following renegotiations with Optus and Telstra to gain access to their copper and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial HFC networks, NBN Co has updated the product roadmap to include the expected dates of the HFC trials and initial product release.

According to the roadmap, the HFC service and customer experience pilot will commence on 30 September 2015 and will run to 31 March 2016. NBN Co’s commercial HFC product is expected to be ready to incorporate into the multi-technology mix rollout in the first financial quarter of 2016.

According to NBN Co CEO, Bill Morrow, “Making use of technologies such as HFC – rather than decommissioning them – enables Australia to capitalise on the significant investments being made globally in broadband technology.”

“In short, this transaction is an essential step to spur Australia’s greater participation in the digital economy and help close the digital divide.”
