nbn has announced it will improve its commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through its second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) by increasing connection and job opportunities.

Key initiatives of the RAP include:

  • Supporting people and organisations in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to bridge the digital divide
  • New actions with the company’s delivery partners for improved employment opportunities and use of Indigenous businesses in the construction of the NBN

The 2016-18 RAP was developed in close consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives, including nbn staff, and will form a blueprint for the company in its partnership with these communities over the next three years.

It builds on achievements from company’s inaugural RAP, including the adoption of cultural heritage management procedures that aim to protect sites of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander significance during construction, and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students through internships and scholarships.
