A new Minister for Primary Industry and Resources for the Northern Territory has been appointed.

The new minister, Kenneth Vowles, had previously taken a strong interest in the Mines and Energy portfolio in his time as Shadow Minister.

APPEA congratulated Mr Vowles and said the oil and gas industry was looking forward to working collaboratively with the Northern Territory Government to achieve the safe and sustainable development of the Territory’s natural resources.

APPEA also congratulated Lauren Moss on her appointment as Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, and Jeff Collins on his appointment as Mr Vowles’ Assistant Minister.

APPEA’s Northern Territory director Matthew Doman said,
“The Territory has a long and proud history of natural gas development over many decades.

“Natural gas generates more than 90 per cent of the NT’s electricity and gas is already the Territory’s largest export. That is set to increase when the Ichthys project starts production towards the end of next year.

“Enormous economic benefits await the Territory through the further development of an onshore gas industry that can create jobs, revitalise regional communities and deliver reliable, affordable and cleaner energy to domestic and international consumers.

“APPEA is committed to working with government and the community to ensure the Northern Territory’s natural gas resources can continue to be developed for the benefit of all Territorians.”

Lauren brings a fresh approach to content. While she’s previously written for publications as diverse as Australian Geographic, The Border Watch and Girlfriend, she’s found her true passion in her current role as an editor in the world of energy and infrastructure trade magazines.
