Approximately 23,000 more energy efficient and safer street lights will be installed across nearly 50 per cent of regional Victoria as part of the Lighting the Regions project.

Launched on Thursday 16 October 2014, this is the biggest street light partnership ever undertaken in Australia.

The project involves changing street lights to more energy efficient LED technology across the entire central, north central, west, and north western regions of Victoria.

The economic, social, and environmental benefits of changing to the new LED street lights will be extremely significant for each of the 16 Local Government Areas in the Lighting the Regional partnership.

Lighting the Regions will deliver:

Better – the new LEDS last up to five times longer than current lights, and use 77 per cent less power to run.

Brighter – the new LEDS provide a brighter, more natural light which will display truer colours and retain their brightness for the life of the light.

Greener – the new LED lights are environmental friendly, using less power to run than current lights and will reduce greenhouse emission by round 180,000 tonnes over the next 20 years.

Powercor has said it is proud to be the Distribution Network Service Provider for the Lighting the Regions project, and will maintain and operate the street lighting infrastructure on behalf of the local government partners.
