A $1.5 million refurbishment project has been successfully completed to help secure the drinking water supplies of Maryborough and the surrounding district in Victoria. The project was undertaken by Central Highlands Water and contractor Findlay Engineering.

Victorian Minister for Water, Peter Walsh, recognised the milestone with Central Highlands Water during a site visit.

“The 10 megalitre tank has been fully refurbished and will provide another 25 years of service to Maryborough, Carisbrook, Talbot, and the surrounding areas,” Mr Walsh said.

“When planning the project, a range of options were considered including full replacement, but Central Highlands Water identified that the tank could be fully refurbished to provide significant life extension to the asset, at a lower cost to customers.”

“I congratulate Central Highlands Water and contractor Findlay Engineering for their very good work on the project, which was completed without any interruption to the Maryborough water supply over a 12-week period.”

“This project will ensure an important water asset will continue to provide high quality drinking water to the Maryborough area for decades to come.”

The tank works included removing and installing a new roof with ventilation and perimeter railing, internal concrete repairs to the floor and walls, improved maintenance access, and a new drainage.

The upgrade is the first stage of Central Highlands Water’s ongoing investment program for the Maryborough and district water supply system.

Minister Walsh said the Victorian Government was committed to ensuring water corporations were delivering smart and innovative initiatives that would deliver customer services at lower costs
