A new water main has been installed along Gisborne Rd, Darley, Victoria, as part of Western Water’s capital investment program.
The $950,000 project involved replacing a 40-year-old main with 3km of new, larger water main between Lerderderg Gorge Rd and Bences Rd.
Western Water’s General Manager, Customer and Community Relations, Graham Holt, said, “The new water main will mean fewer water main bursts for our customers along this busy stretch of road.
“This means less likelihood of people’s water supply being disrupted, and less work for us in repairing damage caused by bursts.”
Mr Holt said the project was completed ahead of time and with minimal disruption to traffic and local residents.
It involved a combination of open-cut trenches and boring underground to minimise the impact on native vegetation.
Work to restore the road verge to its original condition is due to start in September 2017.
