The winner of the NSW/ACT heat of the IXOM Best Tasting Tap Water competition was announced at the WIOA NSW Water Industry Operations Conference and Exhibition in Tamworth.

Port Macquarie Hastings Council won the NSW/ACT competition with its water sample taken from the Hastings River.

The IXOM Best Tasting Tap Water competition is a national competition run by the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) to find the best tasting tap water in Australia.

Using a blind taste test approach, the samples were judged on colour, clarity, odour and taste.

The top drop from each state will be announced throughout 2018, before the state winners battle it out for the top prize during National Water Week in Toowoomba, Queensland where 2017’s national champion comes from.

The winner of the Ixom 2018 Best Tasting Tap Water competition will have bragging rights for the next 12 months and will go on to represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia, US.

Guest judges for the tap water tasting were the Tamworth Queen of Country Music Alexandra Kellahan and local singer Jodie Crosby who also performed on Wednesday 11 April 2018 at the finals.

The competition is a fun way that WIOA raises awareness of the hard work behind the scenes to ensure a quality drinking water supply around Australia.
