Origin Energy has appointed a new Chairman, with current Chairman, Gordon Cairns, retiring after the company’s Annual General Meeting on 20 October 2020.

Scott Perkins has been elected to succeed Mr Cairns as Chairman of the Origin Board.

Mr Cairns said, “Being the Chairman of Origin for the past seven years has been a privilege. I would like to thank the management team, led by our CEO, Frank Calabria, and all my colleagues at Origin for their commitment to our shareholders, customers and communities.

“I also thank my fellow board members for their support and counsel.

“I am pleased to be leaving the business in a strong financial and operational position, and well placed to continue to prosper in the future.

“Origin will have an excellent new Chairman in Scott Perkins, with his deep knowledge of the company, extensive breadth and depth of experience as a non-executive director and as a former advisor in corporate strategy, mergers, acquisitions and capital markets.”

Mr Perkins said, “The strong position Origin is in is testament to Gordon’s leadership, and the skill and dedication of our people.

“On behalf of the board and management, I would like to thank Gordon for his contribution to Origin over many years. I consider it a great privilege to serve as Chairman of such a successful Australian company.

“While there are unquestionably near-term challenges facing our community and economy, Origin is resilient and well placed to navigate through these times.

“I look forward to working closely with Frank, our management team and my board colleagues to enable Origin to reach its full potential.”

Mr Perkins joined the board in September 2015. He is a member of the following committees: Audit; Remuneration and People; Health, Safety and Environment; Risk; and Nomination.

Mr Perkins is a non-executive Director of Woolworths Limited and Brambles Limited.

Origin’s process for board renewal and appointment of directors, and the Corporate Governance Statement are available on Origin’s website.
