The Western Australian Government has announced $10.6million in funding to install an underground pipeline and a new pump station in the Wheatbelt.
WA Water Minister Mia Davies said work in Narembeen to install a new underground pipeline will replace the existing above ground pipeline and connect 350 customers to the Goldfields and Agricultural Region Water Supply Scheme.
Ms Davies said as part of this upgrade, the Water Corporation will also construct two kilometres of underground pipeline for Wadderin farmlands customers, bypassing Narembeen’s main pipeline.
“This will ensure consistent water pressure for customers in the Wadderin farmlands area during peak demand periods, as this stand-alone pipe means the water will no longer have to travel through the town first and lose pressure along the way,” Ms Davies said.
The upgrades will also include the installation of a new pump station in West Narembeen and an upgrade to the Belka pump station.
Ms Davies said the Water Corporation also plan to replace 1.2km of underground pipeline in Koorda, which is due for renewal.
This pipeline supplies water to about 430 Water Corporation customers in the Shire of Koorda.
“The pipeline runs through the centre of town so there will be some impact on local traffic, however the Water Corporation will give residents plenty of notice before the work begins,” Ms Davies said.
Ms Davies said replacing the above ground pipeline in Narembeen with one that was buried would ensure the pipeline no longer heated up in the warmer months.
The work in Koorda will be completed by mid-2016 and the work in Narembeen will be completed by the end of 2016.
This is in addition to the $32million farmlands water supply project, which is aimed at significantly improving the water and farmlands supply schemes in the Wheatbelt area.
