Sustainability is a central priority for utilities, and innovative programs that not only boost operational efficiency, but benefit the community, are essential.

At Programmed, sustainability is a core focus and the company’s new Containers for Change initiative at Golden Grove mine site represents meaningful progress toward reducing its environmental impact.
In partnership with Western Australia Return Recycle Renew (WARRRL), this program enhances recycling efforts at the mine site and offers additional advantages to the community.
Previously restricted to aluminum cans, the recycling program at Golden Grove now includes all eligible drink containers.
This initiative owes much to the leadership Programmed Sustainability Lead, Talia Ford.
The company said Ms Ford’s dedication to environmental care and community support has been crucial.
Ms Ford said the program enhances on-site recycling efficiency while supporting essential services in rural Australia.
“It benefits both the environment and the communities we serve,” she said.
Programmed introduced the Containers for Change program at Golden Grove in 2024.
For each container collected, a ten-cent refund is donated by 29Metals to the Morowa Community Shed and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), which provides vital medical services to remote areas. The MoTown Community Shed in Morawa manages container collection and receives additional compensation from the Containers for Change scheme.
The partnership not only strengthens recycling at Golden Grove but also supports community projects in Morawa.
Programmed is committed to sustainability initiatives that align with the company’s values of environmental responsibility and community involvement.
The Golden Grove team’s commitment to Containers for Change exemplifies how collective efforts can lead to meaningful change.
Here’s to a greener, more sustainable future!
